Positional Spring: Students discovered the meaning and value of positional words via a variety of online games. They created a springtime picture in Pixie 3 and described the image with a sentence that included positional words. Vocab: Spilt Milk: We read aloud the book, It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw. Next students we're asked to be creative and design their own 'spilt milk' illustration. During this lesson, students are introduced to the text color and eraser tools in Pixie.
3D Shapes: Students spent one class period exploring shapes via the Web Warm Ups (above) then "voted" on their favorite game. Next they practiced moving files as they dragged and dropped a template (3D Shape worksheet) to their desktop and into the application called Kidspiration. Students showed what they know about 3D shapes by completing the worksheet which asked them to find images of real world 3D shapes. They were also introduced to the application Kidspiration which includes sticker galleries, speech and delete tools. Finally they were exposed to printing on a school network printer. Descriptive Snowmen: Students are practicing their technology skills while making detailed snowmen. They will practice typing in text boxes, drawing and searching for images to add details to their snowman. Students learn about the importance of adding details to their descriptions. With the support of the teacher, students will use the audio tools in Pixie to record a "detailed" description of their snowman. Vocab: details, text box, undo, delete, search, folders, stickers, paint, point, select, audio, microphone, record Taking Good Pictures & Making an ABC Book: Students are learning how about taking good pictures and how to use a digital camera. They will use their photography skills to photograph objects that match their assigned letter t and write a creative sentence to go with their image. These images will be compiled and used to create a class ABC e-book. Students learn how to resize and format text and practice using the shift key to type an uppercase letter. Students will also explore initial sounds via Pixie while they practice using the search box to locate stickers for their page.
ABC Me: Students
are learning how to write their name in a text box while using the
Shift Key to make an uppercase letter. They are also using PhotoBooth
to take a picture of themselves and learning about basic controls to
move and rename the image. All classes are using Pixie 2 or Pixie 3
and learning about common publishing tools like imbedded web cams,
paint tools, stickers, and "text to speech." A few classes even wrote
their names and the ABC's with MicroSoft Word. An interactive
PowerPoint will be created as a final project and students will learn
how to use the PowerPoint presentation tools as they view their final
projects independently. Vocab: text, text box, text
to speech, shift (for uppercase) key, delete, undo, applications,
Pixie, MS Word, return (enter) key,
